32-420-313 MOLD DIE CONSTRUCTION ...this course provides the opportunity for the learner to develop the knowledge skills process and understanding of squaring plates, milling/boring/turning mold components, 3-dimensional machining operations, grinding/polishing operations, heat treating, fitting ejector systems, heating/cooling systems, applying fasteners, engraving/stamping, apply Ram EDM. Also to fit, assemble, trouble shoot, diagnose and run mold dies on a plastic injection molding machine. (Prerequisites: 32-420-365, 3D CAM Programming; 32-420-307, EDM & Waterjet Machining; 32-420-336, CNC Machining Center; Corequisite: 32-420-313, Intro to Mold Die)

What will I learn?

  1. Produce Mold cavities with the appropriate polished surface
  2. Apply safe work habits in the machine tool lab
  3. Select appropriate materials to be machined for Mold Die components
  4. Apply milling processes to mold die construction
  5. Apply drilling processes to mold die construction
  6. Produce mold cavities and cores with CNC Milling machine processes
  7. Produce mold cavities and cores with electrical discharge machining processes
  8. Perform heat treating operations on components produced with various mold steels
  9. Apply clearance, sliding, locational and press fits on various mold components
  10. Apply cooling and/or heating line to mold plates and cores
  11. Apply engraving and/or stamping operations to a mold die
  12. Perform machining operations to produce runner and gate systems
  13. Assemble mold die plates and ejector system using correct types of fasteners
  14. Set up completed mold on a molding machine for try-out
  15. Operate a molding machine to produce finished product from a mold die
