Course requirements include a trip to UW-Stout for lab work. (Prerequisite: 10-623-170, Engineering Materials-Intro)

What will I learn?

  1. Follow all safety precautions and practices.
  2. Examine polymers at a molecular level along with use of standard terminology, how they relate to physical properties and the processing parameters for manufacturing.
  3. Determine selected physical and mechanical properties of polymeric materials and use variety of testing equipment.
  4. Use Rheology of Polymer Melts and applications.
  5. Use Mixing processes and devices.
  6. Use Injection Molding processes and techniques.
  7. Use Extrusion processes and techniques.
  8. Use Secondary Shaping processes and techniques.
  9. Use other important polymer processes and techniques.
  10. Apply methodologies of design for manufacturability to polymer processing areas.
  11. Apply basic design concepts necessary in the development of tooling for polymer processing.
