10-614-271 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS …relates fundamental concepts of physics to architectural design and building construction. Physical properties of building materials and systems will be analyzed using basic principles of statics and strength of materials. (Prerequisites: 10-614-232, Struct Residential; 10-804-196, Trigonometry w Apps OR 10-804-114, College Tech Math 1B)

  2. Determine load paths in framing systems.
  3. Factor lateral stability into framing systems.
  4. Determine centers of gravity and centroids.
  5. Calculate area moments of inertia.
  6. Determine shear forces and bending moments in beams.
  7. Calculate bending and shear stresses in beams.
  8. Determine deflections in beams.
  9. Examine modes of failure in columns.
  10. Compute the size of columns.
