10-504-153 ETHICS - CRIMINAL JUSTICE ...in-depth study of ethical philosophies and their application to the Law Enforcement Officer’s Code of Ethics and professional performance in the field. Topics include morality, leadership, ethical decision-making, self-actualization, ethics-based performance and the breakdown of ethical conduct.

What will I learn?
- Apply ethical elements (Honesty, Integrity, Character) in professional practices
- Exercise moral development and appropriate belief systems in relation to law enforcement.
- Analyze the role of ethics in law enforcement.
- Operate within the professional and legal standards of law enforcement.
- Identify key components of the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.
- Recognizing unethical behavior (slippery slope, complacency, "retired on duty," minimizing).
- Explain the consequences of unethical behavior (stakeholders, career survival, public, etc.).
- Execute appropriate decision-making processes and usage of tools in ethical dilemmas.
- Identify factors that lead to unethical behavior (drivers).
- Apply techniques to overcome barriers in simulated cases (POA, "possible-outcome-alternative").
- Analyze scenarios for the purpose of identifying ethical/unethical issues
- Employ methods of preventing poor ethical choices
