Dental Laboratory Procedures

4 cr.

Prepares Dental Assistant students to produce alginate impressions and fabricate diagnostic models, oral appliances, temporary restorations, and custom trays. Students also polish oral appliances. (Prerequisites: 10-508-113, Dental Materials; all other 2nd semester classes; Corequisite: 31-508-311, Dental Clinical Advanced; 31-508-308, Dental Chairside Advanced; 31-508-310 Dental Radiography - Advanced)

Dental Materials

2 cr.

Prepares dental auxiliary students to handle and prepare dental materials such as liners, bases, cements, amalgam, resin restorative materials, gypsum products, and impression materials. They also learn to take alginate impressions on manikins and clean removable appliances. (Prerequisites: 10-508-101, Dental Health Safety; 31-508-304, Dental & General Anatomy OR 10-508-102, Oral Anatomy, Embry, Histology)

Dental Office Management

2 cr.

Prepares dental auxiliary students to manage telephones, appointments, recall systems, and inventory. Students also develop the skills need to process accounts receivable and payable, collections, and third party reimbursements. (Prerequisite: Accepted into the Dental Assistant Technical Diploma)

Dental Pharmacology

2 cr.

Prepares student dental hygienists to select safe and effective patient premedication, local anesthetic, chemo therapeutic and anti-microbial agents within the scope of dental hygiene practice. Students will also learn to recognize potential pharmacological contraindications for specific patients and to take measures to avoid negative impact or alert other members of the dental team to possible negative impact. (Prerequisites:10-806-186, Intro to Biochemistry; 10-806-197, Microbiology; 10-508-106, Dental Hygiene Process 2)

Dental Radiography

2 cr.

Prepares dental auxiliary students to operate x-ray units and expose bitewing, periapical, extra oral, and occlusal radiographs. Emphasis is placed on protection against x-ray hazards. Students also process, mount, and evaluate radiographs for diagnostic value. In this course students demonstrate competency on a manikin. In addition, students expose bitewing radiographs on a peer, role-play patient. (Prerequisite: 10-508-101, Dent Health Safety; Corequisite: For Dental Hygienist Associate Degree Program Students only: 10-508-102, Oral Anat & Hist)

Dental Radiography - Advanced

1 cr.

Builds on principles and skills developed in Dental Radiography. Dental assisting students expose full mouth series, extra-oral and specialized radiographs on adult and child patients. Emphasis is placed on protection against x-ray hazards. Students will also acquire and evaluate radiographic images for diagnostic value. In addition, they will use radiographs to explain dental health and treatment plans to patients. (Prerequisite: 10-508-103, Dental Radiography Applications; all other 2nd semester classes; Corequisite: 31-508-308, Dental Chairside Advanced; 31-508-309, Dental Laboratory Procedures; 31-508-311, Dental Assistant Clinical Advanced)

Des/Graphic Career Experience

2 cr.

Students can select any hands on experience related to: Internship, Field Research, Service Learning, Capstone, Industry Related or International Experience. Instructor approval required. (Prerequisites: 10-105-103, Career Fundamentals; 10-111-131, Graphic Design Project Management)

Design for Various Manufacturing Methods

2 cr.

Hands-on lab approach to designing parts in SolidWorks and detailing them for manufacturing. Costs of each manufacturing method, the end results (properties), and selecting the best method for a part based on the project criteria will be determined. (Prerequisite: 10-614-236, Intro to Rapid Prototype; 10-606-129, Assembly Design)

Design Problems

3 cr.

Data gathering, mathematics, document standard practices, project management and teamwork. (Prerequisites: 10-606-216, SolidWorks Advanced; 10-606-148, Materials-Strength; 10-606-211, Mech AutoCAD Fundamentals)

Developmental Psychology

3 cr.

Developmental Psychology is the study of human development throughout the lifespan. This course explores developmental theory and research with an emphasis on the interactive nature of the biological, cognitive, and psychosocial changes that affect the individual from conception to death. Application activities and critical thinking skills will enable students to gain an increased knowledge and understanding of themselves and others. (Prerequisite: GPA greater/equal to 2.6; OR Next Gen Rdg score greater/equal to 250 AND Writing score greater/equal to 237; OR ACT Rdg score greater/equal to 15 AND English greater/equal to 15; OR 10-831-107, College Reading and Writing with a B or better)

DH-Dental Hygiene Board Review

2 cr.

This course prepares the Dental Hygienist student for successful completion of the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination. The students will review pertinent information about Dental Hygiene core courses, study strategies, and test-taking skills.

Diesel Electronic Management

2 cr.

Focuses on electronic computer controlled engine management system function, component identification and computer-based diagnostic tool operation. Lab demonstrations cover component identification, function and testing of the engine management systems. Introduction to proper operation and use of electronic testing with the use of a digital volt ohm meter.
