Course Description

10-605-219 FOUNDATIONS OF IMAGE QUALITY ...Discusses methods and measures to assess medical image quality of various imaging modalities. Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and its component factors will be a focus of discussion, which includes the appropriate test equipment and methodologies. (Prerequisite: 10-605-218, Image Detector Technology and Its Management)

What will I learn?

  1. Calculate an image system’s modulation transfer function (MTF) value using its component factors
  2. Compare and contrast medical imaging systems as they are expressed in MTF values
  3. Analyze selected medical images for acceptability using established clinical benchmarks
  4. Demonstrate the proper method(s) for testing medical images using correct instrumentation
  5. Recommend possible corrective measures to bring medical image quality into acceptance
  6. Discuss limitations presented when measuring image quality for selected imaging modalities
  7. Relate medical image quality assessment to clinical outcomes
  8. Distinguish between spatial, contrast and temporal resolution and their measurements
