Earning the Business Requirements Specialist diploma is a smart way to start. You will prepare for junior business analysis careers while earning 28 credits toward the Business Analyst associate degree program. That means after completing the technical diploma, you could start employment in an entry-level business analyst career while finishing up your associate degree.

Business analysis is defined as “the practice of enabling change in an organizational context by defining needs and recommending solutions that deliver value to stakeholders.” The Business Requirements Specialist (BRS) helps a business meet its goals and objectives, understands how work is being conducted, and through analysis, determines solutions to the issues. The BRS will work with stakeholders to conduct a feasibility study, focusing on requirements gathering and preparing a business case to justify change. At the beginning of the BRS career, they receive guidance from a Business Analyst ensuring complete and accurate work.

Employment Potential

A graduate of this program will have the potential for employment in the following areas:

  • Junior Business Analyst: provide technical analysis, budget analysts and communicate recommendations effectively to officials within the organization, under the direction of a Business Analyst.
  • Junior Business Systems Analyst: analyze science, engineering, business, and other data processing problems to implement and improve computer systems. Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems and review computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations, under the direction of a Business Analyst.
  • Project Coordinator: accomplishes department objectives by meeting work and cost standards; providing work direction to staff.

With additional education and/or work experience, graduates may find other opportunities for employment.

Requirements for Program Entry

  • Five years of related work experience or an associate degree or higher credential.
  • User-level familiarity with one or more computer operating environments.
  • Ability to interact with a computer system (keyboarding or assist device).
  • To be admitted to this program, learners must achieve a prior cumulative high school or college grade point average of 2.6 or higher OR a satisfactory academic skills assessment score.
