NWTC does not provide unofficial transfer evaluations, however it is free to apply to a program!
First, apply to an NWTC program. We’ll then automatically conduct an official review of your transcripts (from your high school, college, and/or military experience) and let you know which/how many of your credits transfer. We will also award credit if you have successful scores from national standard exams, including AP, CLEP, and IB. Here's how it works:
- Apply to an NWTC degree, diploma, or certificate program.
- Contact the high school, college or GED location you previously attended and request that your official transcripts are sent directly to NWTC.
- If applicable, request to have your scores from national standard exams sent directly to NWTC.
- Log into your student account and view academics to see which courses transferred!
Transfer Credit FAQs
How long does the official transfer credit process take?
Once transcripts are received and processed, the official evaluation can take up to 4-5 weeks to complete.
Does NWTC provide Unofficial Transfer Evaluations?
NWTC does not provide unofficial transfer evaluations. It is free to apply to NWTC and you may then start the official transfer evaluation process. Students are also welcome to utilize the free tool Transferology to see what credits may transfer over to NWTC.
I have previous NWTC credits. How can I see what would transfer to a new program?
Once applied and accepted pre-program to your new program, please view your Academic Progress in Workday to see what credits transfer over.
What grade is required for transfer credit?
For most courses, the grade earned must be at least a C or higher to be considered for transfer credit. Some programs require a B/80% or higher for certain science courses like General Anatomy and Physiology, please refer to the admissions guide for your program.
How do I Transfer International Credit to NWTC?
There can be huge value in getting your international transcript evaluated once you get accepted to NWTC.
- Students have the option to earn credit for equivalent college or university courses they have completed outside the United States.
- This can save you time and money as you complete your credential!
- Select a credential evaluator. Most credential evaluators charge between $150 - $300 for the service. NWTC will accept evaluations from any National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member such as:
- Submit your original, sealed international transcripts and diploma directly to an evaluation company a minimum of 30 days before you arrive on campus in the United States. Check with the credential evaluator to determine exactly what documents to submit.
- The evaluation process can often take 10-15 business days after all paperwork and payment has been submitted to the evaluation company. Submitting your paperwork before you arrive will help ensure you are placed into the correct courses to start the semester and avoid unnecessary coursework and tuition.
- In order to transfer in credits completed outside the United States NWTC requires a course-by-course evaluation of your international high school or post-secondary coursework. NWTC often also requires course syllabi for courses you wish to transfer in.
- In order to transfer in a course NWTC requires the grade earned to be a ‘C or better’. A grade of ‘C- or below’ will not be reviewed for transfer credit.
- NWTC does not guarantee that you will receive transfer credits from a credential evaluation.

Earn Credit for Prior Learning
With knowledge you’ve gained outside of the classroom, you may be a good candidate to receive Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) for a course (or courses) in your academic program. Note: To be eligible for CPL, you must be accepted into an associate degree, technical diploma, or certificate.
Credit by Exam
You can earn college credits by testing out of a course. You may only attempt Credit by Exam once per course. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass.
Cost: $50.00 per course
- Fee is non-refundable regardless of exam outcome.
- Fee cannot be applied to the cost of future tuition.

National Exams
NWTC accepts scores from national standardized exams including Advanced Placement (AP), CLEP, IB and more. Learn more about the exams we accept and their NWTC course equivalencies.
Credit by Portfolio or Demonstration
Portfolio
A CPL portfolio is a collection of reflections, supporting documents, and artifacts (examples of student work). A minimum score of 80% is required to pass.
Skills Demonstration
A CPL skills demonstration is a type of assessment in which a student is performing a specific task and is then graded on performance quality and accuracy. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass.
Cost: $90.00 per course

Certification or License
In certain situations, knowledge and skills gained by obtaining professional certification or licensure may align to an NWTC class in your degree program. You may be awarded college credit upon the review of the certificate or license.
Credit for Military Training
Military Years of Service
Students may receive up to 4 credits based on their program selection, degree‑completion status, and verified active‑duty military service. A DD‑214 Member 2 or 4 copy is required to confirm net active service and an other‑than‑dishonorable discharge under federal and state benefit criteria.

Military Transcript
Joint Service Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Transcripts.
In addition, the service member is encouraged to submit an official Joint Service Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript for comprehensive evaluation based on the American Council on Education credit recommendations. This evaluation will be used to determine eligibility for potential transfer credits based on prior military education and training. It is important to note that credit awarded for JST-CCAF documented training is not automatic; all coursework and training experiences must directly align with the institution’s program requirements, established competencies, and academic standards. Only those courses or training that demonstrate clear equivalency to the program’s learning outcomes will be considered for transfer credit.
Students who completed basic training and are pursuing the Liberal Arts Degree may be eligible to receive 1 credit of Wellness/Physical Education credit.
