NWTC Mechanical Design students partnered with Green Bay Metro Fire Department to design and create removable trays to sort and store their medical equipment. Students received experience working on a project with real-world applications while providing a consistent, easy-to-use system for utilizing and storing IV equipment for paramedics.

Using reverse engineering and 3D modeling software, students rendered the existing trays in SolidWorks and created new design iterations that solved the problems the first responders encountered. Once the designs were approved, the students made their work come to life on a 3D printer and tested it for fit and function on Green Bay ambulances. Today, the Green Bay Fire Department ambulances are riding around using the parts to help store and sort their equipment, increasing safety and efficiency during emergency responses.
