In the new NWTC Dental Extended Reality Lab, dental students are using augmented reality, virtual reality, and other simulation technologies to prepare for real-world care. Students practice dental procedures, patient communication, and problem solving prior to working with actual patients.
“The recent tour I had of the lab was very exciting,” said Dr. Alissa Edwards of Fox Run Dental in Appleton. “The setup more accurately depicts real dental settings and prepares students for high tech offices. The most promising aspect was the students themselves. I could feel their excitement about the lab and program.”
The lab, which opened in August, was made possible by an oral health grant funded by the Wisconsin Technical College System.
