Course Description

10-515-181 RESPIRATORY/CARDIO DIAGNOSTICS ...advanced invasive and noninvasive diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures including pulmonary function, hemodynamics and rescue medicine. Emphasis is placed on promotion of evidence-based practice using established clinical practice guidelines and published research for its relevance to patient care. (Prerequisites: 10-515-173, Respiratory Pharmacology; 10-515-176, Respiratory Disease; 10-515-113, Respiratory Life Support)

What will I learn?

  1. Interpret data from invasive procedures to assess oxygenation and ventilation
  2. Follow quality assurance on respiratory therapy equipment
  3. Evaluate data obtained from (invasive and noninvasive) hemodynamic monitoring
  4. Interpret advanced ECG rhythm strips
  5. Perform simple spirometry
  6. Interpret a complete pulmonary function test
  7. Explain therapist's role in assisting the physician during special procedures (thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, cardioversion)
  8. Recommend treatment based on 6 minute walk (exercise)
