- Examine the development of criminal law.
- Evaluate the applicability of the Wisconsin and U.S. Constitutions in criminal court.
- Differentiate the components of the U.S. federal court system and the Wisconsin court system.

- Interpret the constitutional rights of criminal defendants.
- Analyze criminal court procedures, from the commencement of the proceedings with a criminal complaint through sentencing.
