10-530-163 HEALTHCARE STATS AND ANALYTICS ...explores the management of medical data for statistical purposes focusing on descriptive and inferential statistics including definition, collection, calculation and compilation of numerical data. Examines data analytics, retrieval, presentation and research methodologies (Prerequisites: 10-530-162, Foundations of HIM; Corequisite: 10-103-131 MS Excel Intro, 10-130-132 MS Excel Part 2)

What will I learn?

  1. PERFORM basic mathematical computations
  2. Report types of health statistics and their applications.
  3. Calculate utilization related statistics
  4. Calculate morbidity and mortality rates and percentages
  5. Examine research principles
  6. Present statistical results
  7. Perform functions related to vital statistics and mandatory state reporting
  8. Perform disease/procedure registry functions
  9. EXAMINE types of healthcare statistics and the ways in which they are applied
  10. CALCULATE inpatient and outpatient utilization statistics (census, occupancy, turnover, LOS, surgical rates, etc.)
  11. CALCULATE inpatient and outpatient morbidity and mortality statistics (death, autopsy, infection)
  12. CALCULATE epidemiological statistics (incidence and prevalence)
  13. EVALUATE data analytics and the ways in which it is used in healthcare
  14. CONSTRUCT graphical display of data using spreadsheet and statistical software
  15. ANALYZE data using descriptive statistics to identify patterns and trends
  16. EXAMINE research methodologies used in healthcare
