Course Description

10-660-110 ELECTRONICS 1: DIODES-BASIC ...introduction to the characteristics and usage of semiconductor diodes in rectifiers and linear power supplies. Special diodes and diode circuits are also considered. (Prerequisite: 10-660-116, Intro to AC/DC; 10-660-105, DC 2: Circuits; Corequisite: 10-660-106, DC 3: Circuit Theorems)

Course Competencies

  1. Distinguish the characteristics of specialty types of diodes
  2. Analyze circuits using three diode models
  3. Calculate current, voltage and regulation in Zener diode circuits
  4. Calculate ripple using capacitor and inductor/capacitor filters
  5. Analyze a complete regulated power supply
  6. Assemble diode circuits following a circuit diagram
  7. Expired: Describe the formation of a PN junction in doped semiconductor material
  8. Expired: Describe the characteristics of specialty types of diodes
