Course Description
32-420-316 DIE ASSEMBLY CONSTRUCTION ...the learner will become acquainted with the skills, knowledge and processes required to manufacture a die assembly for a basic stamping die, along with die assembly and short run production of piece parts. (Prerequisite: 31-420-361, Integrating Machine Tools; Corequisites: 32-420-365 3D CAM Programming; 32-420-307, EDM & Waterjet Machining; 32-420-336, CNC Machining Center)

What will I learn?
- Apply safe work habits in the machine tool lab
- Identify the parts of a Die assembly.
- Interpret blueprints containing die components
- Select appropriate materials to be machined for die components
- Perform milling operations to produce die components of correct size and shape
- Perform heat treating operations on die components
- Perform surface grinding operations to produce die components of correct size and shape
- Perform E.D.M. operations to produce die components of correct size and shape
- Create an assembly with punch and die components
- Set up assembly of punch and die in stamping press
- Operate stamping press to produce sheet metal parts from punch and die assembly
