Course Description
10-815-202 CERAMICS 3: INTERMEDIATE ...Continue fostering growth in Ceramics studies with attention on variety and definition. Students will practice shaping and attaching formal elements such as feet, handles, lips, spouts, rims, and lids on a variety of forms, produce a set of plates, develop a defined quality of pottery interiors, analyze pottery construction to re-create wares, and participate in group critiques. Students will experiment with advanced finishing techniques such as wash, underglaze, cold finish, slip, and will be challenged to consider deliberate glaze application informed by distinct elements. (Prerequisite: 10-815-201, Ceramics 2: Wheel Throwing with a "C" or better.)

What will I learn?
- Produce distinct lips and feet on various cylindrical forms.
- Elaborate on cylindrical forms by creating defined rims, feet, and quality interior.
- Throw a pitcher form, add or pull a spout, and attach a handle.
- Generate repetition by throwing a series of bowls with defined rims and feet.
- Re-create a simple form of a contemporary or historic wheel-thrown vessel.
- Develop glaze-work by using existing formal elements as termination lines.
- Create a set of plates.
- Throw several lidded forms.
- Construct a teapot – spout, body, handle, and lid.
