10-090-132 BASIC AGRONOMY ...this is an introductory crops and soils course. Students will develop a fundamental knowledge of soil and water, nutrient management, pest management, and crop management. Topics include basic soil physical and biological characteristics, soil and plant tissue analysis and interpretation, soil pH and liming, fertilizers and other nutrient sources, pest identification and management, and basic crop development.

  1. Examine the environmental factors that affect crop production.
  2. Compare different tillage techniques and how they affect crop production.
  3. Examine different practices and technologies that are used to enhance crop production.
  4. Determine factors that affect crop selection, crop rotation and nutrient management planning.
  5. Examine plant parts and their functions.
  6. Examine practices for the successful production of alfalfa and other forage crops.
  7. Examine practices for the successful production of corn, soybeans and other small grains.
  8. Determine the importance of weeds and their impact on crop production.
  9. Examine the impact wildlife and pests have on crop production.
  10. Assess the proper harvesting, processing and storage and techniques for forage and grain crops.
