10-614-240 ARCHITECTURAL RESIDENTIAL ...emphasizes residential house styles, building codes, and design components related to the site and structure. Conceptual design drawings will be developed into construction drawings using 2D CAD and 3D BIM design software. What will I learn?

  1. Explore architectural housing styles of the past and present.
  2. Evaluate house designs and layouts.
  3. Relate building codes and zoning ordinances to design factors.
  4. Evaluate residential room relationships and sizes.
  5. Investigate residential kitchen design.
  6. Investigate residential bath design.
  7. Examine residential stair design.
  8. Investigate fireplaces and stoves.
  9. Analyze windows and doors used in residential construction.
  10. Investigate accessible and universal design.
  11. Investigate remodeling, additions, renovations, restoration, preservation, and adaptive reuse of houses.
  12. Explore multifamily residences.
  13. Produce a set of construction drawings for a split-level house.
  14. Produce a set of construction drawings for a 1 1/2 story house.
  15. Analyze LEED and Energy Star rating system used in residences.
  16. Produce and present a residence using LEED for Homes criteria.
