Policies are maintained as a live system and reflect the most current expectations.
Membership Certification Process
Studio certification is required to use equipment and work independently in each studio area.
Completion of a class does not automatically result in certification.
Option 1: Fundamentals Class
Enroll in a fundamentals class for the studio(s) you plan to use. These classes are designed to build foundational skills and prepare you for certification.
• Certification is granted at the discretion of Artisan Center instructors and staff based on demonstrated proficiency and adherence to studio standards
• Additional practice or follow-up may be required before certification is approved
Option 2: Certification Appointment
Schedule a certification appointment to demonstrate proficiency in fundamental studio skills. This option is recommended for those with prior experience or training.
• Certification appointments are $30
• To schedule, email: Artisan.Center@nwtc.edu
Additional Information
• Certification must be completed before using studio equipment independently
• Studio access is granted based on certification in each area
Membership & Registration Information
Quarterly Memberships
Open Studio memberships are offered on a quarterly basis throughout the year. Registration dates and availability are announced in advance.
Full-Year Memberships
Full-year Open Studio memberships are offered annually for a July–June session.
Ceramics
Full-year ceramics memberships are assigned through an annual lottery process held each April. All current Open Studio participants are eligible to apply. Due to high demand, these memberships are typically filled through the lottery and do not open for public registration.
Fused Glass & Woodturning
Full-year memberships for fused glass and woodturning are offered through standard registration and typically open in mid-May.
Studio Scoop (Open Studio Meetings)
Studio Scoop meetings are held in advance of each membership period and are strongly encouraged for all members.
These sessions support orientation, safety expectations, studio updates, and badge setup to ensure members are prepared prior to the start of their membership.
Two sessions are offered in June for the July membership cycle. One session will be scheduled in advance of each quarterly membership period moving forward.
Attendance at a Studio Scoop session prior to the start of membership is required. Members who are unable to attend must complete all required orientation and setup in advance of their membership start.
