In today’s job market, employers expect applicants to have real-world experience. For students, internships are a way to test-drive a career or employer. Plus, an internship may turn into employment.

Benefits for Students

  • Gain practical work experience, confidence and employability skills.
  • Become more marketable and familiar with the world of work.
  • Earn course credit - some degree programs integrate an internship as a requirement for graduation. Contact your program lead instructor for more information.
  • Network with experienced professionals in the industry.
  • Opportunity to collaborate, gain professional references and obtain potential job leads.

Student Responsibilities

  • Respect the organization’s reporting structure and follow the policies and procedures of the employer.
  • Complete required paperwork including evaluation forms and journals. Requirements may vary by programs.
  • Represent NWTC by acting in an ethical manner when on and off-campus.
  • Collaborate with your lead instructor and employer to develop a plan.

Internship Checklist

  1. As soon as possible, communicate with your program’s instructors/advisors to create your internship timeline.
  2. Create/review resume and cover letter.  Email it to careers@nwtc.edu for a resume review.
  3. Register on Handshake to begin searching for open internship positions.
  4. Contact Career Services for assistance with your search for an internship.
  5. Visit the Career Closet to obtain clothing for your interview.
  6. Participate in a mock interview with a career advisor.
  7. Secure your internship and continue to grow and advance your career!

Instructions for your program

College of Business Internships

Getting Started

Students of the x, y, and z programs in the College of Business should start by visualizing their ideal career. How do you want to use your knowledge and skills moving forward? 

When you are ready to get started, connect with Brad Zima (brad.zima@nwtc.edu) in Career Services to discuss.

Complete the Career Planning course, which is a prerequisite for your program-specific Career Experience class.

If you plan to use your internship experience as credit for the course, approve your internship site and create a plan with your Career Experience instructor.

Lab Science Tech Internships

Getting Started

Students of the Lab Science Tech program should start by visualizing their ideal career. How do you want to use your knowledge and skills moving forward?

Your internship is a required course to graduate from the Laboratory Science Tech program. Please connect with your Faculty Mentor if you need guidance to help search for internship site options.
