NWTC chosen by Mark Cuban Foundation to host FREE Virtual Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp

How does facial recognition software work or how does Netflix know what shows or movies I want to watch next?
 
It’s all a part of artificial intelligence or AI. Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has a one of a kind opportunity for high school students (grades 9 – 12) to explore and learn about AI at the virtual AI Bootcamp.
 
NWTC with its strong Microsoft Partnership is one of five locations from around the country selected by the Mark Cuban Foundation to host the boot camp which runs Saturdays from October 24 to November 14 from noon to 5:00 p.m. The event is being held virtually this year due to COVID-19.
 
“Artificial Intelligence is not just about computers,” NWTC College of Business Associate Dean Sue Zittlow. “AI is integrated into many systems we use on a daily basis. AI is also part of Industry 4.0 with technologies built into many systems to help automate some decision making elements. An example of AI includes self-driving cars.”
 
This interactive boot camp taught by NWTC College of Business and Trades and Engineering Technology instructors and IT staff will teach students what artificial intelligence is, where they already interact with AI in their everyday lives, future opportunities, and the ethical implications of AI systems.
 
Students need to be interested and curious and do not need any familiarity with computer science or programming to apply for the boot camp.
 
The Mark Cuban Foundation created the AI Bootcamps Initiative in 2019 to teach  the fundamentals about AI and the systems behind it to any student with an interest in technology.  

Students in grades 9 to 12 are welcome to apply for the boot camp. To apply go to apply.markcubanai.org and choose Green Bay (NWTC). Applications are due 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020.
