As physical distancing made classes nationwide move to the web, Introduction to Diversity instructor Lance Kelley created strategies to help students regain a sense of normalcy.

He met with students online at the same day and time in-person classes had been scheduled prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kelley said he did it for a few reasons.

“One, to help my students to have some type of structure, especially when everything was closing down,” he said. “Second, I wanted to keep my schedule due to having family members at home.”

Kelley and his students found that maintaining regular meetings was both a success strategy and a comfort.

Students commented to Kelley about how they like maintaining class structure and routine and it made them get up and keep up with their classes.

“I know some students didn’t enjoy the virtual aspect (including me) but overall, it worked for me and most of my students,” Kelley said.
