Nearly 100 sophomore and junior high school students from Crivitz and Coleman school districts gathered for the annual Northwoods Regional Technical Academy Open House—an event designed to introduce students to dual-credit opportunities available through Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC).
Throughout the event, students explored a wide range of programs across a wide range of programs across skilled trades, business, and healthcare. Faculty, NWTC staff, and industry-experienced instructors guided students through lab spaces, answered questions, and shared how these programs connect classroom learning to real-world careers.
“Opportunities like this allow students to see firsthand how their interests can translate into future careers”, said Sandy Wojick, K12 Pathways & Community Impact Coordinator. “Dual credit offerings—especially through the Northwoods Academy—make higher education more accessible and allow students to get a jump-start on college-level learning, close to home.”
Through NWTC’s dual credit options, including the Start College Now program, area high school juniors and seniors can earn college credits while still enrolled in high school – reducing both time and cost required to complete a degree or certificate after graduation. In partnership with local school districts, the Northwoods Regional Technical Academy expands these opportunities by helping students move directly from high school into college programs tied to real jobs in the region.
Students enrolled through the Academy can pursue pathways in automotive maintenance, electro-mechanical technology, welding, nursing assistant, information technology, and entrepreneurship. Notably, students in automotive maintenance and welding can complete an entire NWTC technical diploma while still in high school.
Credits earned through these programs seamlessly transfer to NWTC and can be applied toward a wide variety of academic and career pathways, helping students get a head start on what comes next.
