NWTC Artisan and Business Center Celebrates Annual Artist Residency Program at Art Garage
The Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Artisan and Business Center celebrates its 2022 Artisan Residency Program with a special public exhibit held at the Art Garage from June 30 through July 30.

Established in 2020, the Artisan Residency Program was created to help artists grow their business. Five artists are selected in this year-long program where they receive tools, education, and mentorship to help them develop as thriving entrepreneurs.

“The Artisan and Business Center’s residency experience is unique in that it helps bring artists of all levels together to learn from each other as well as experts in the field,” said Jan Scoville, NWTC dean of Regional Learning.

The Residency Program culminates with a month-long exhibition at the Art Garage to display and sell artists’ work to the public.

“The exhibit brings the residency experience full circle. Residents create work individually and collaboratively while applying elements of their mentoring. It is an exciting process to witness,” said Scoville.

The Art Garage is offering free admission to the Residency Program exhibit to create a welcoming environment for art enthusiasts in Northeast Wisconsin and open the door to those new to the art world.

“The NWTC and Art Garage mission and programs often complement each other, and this is a great example of that. We are more than happy to support the Artisan and Business Center Residency Program, the growth of these artists, and showcase the hard work they have put in,” states Haylie Place, The Art Garage Gallery Specialist.

The exhibit includes a mix of pottery, painting, photography, and mixed media collage. Artists in the 2022 Residency Program include:
  • Kendra Bilotto (@KendraBilottoArt)
  • Sadie Cheyenne (@SadieCheyenne)
  • Miwako “Binky” Heverly (@MiwaCeramics)
  • Tania Nelson (@TaniaNelsonArt)
  • Chris Rugowski (@TheChickenDoesPhotography)

Applications for the 2023 Artisan Residency Program are available now through July 22. The awarded cohort will be announced on August 5. For how to apply or further information, visit NWTC’s Artisan Residency Program webpage.
