Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is pleased to announce Denisse Arjon-Rivera has been selected as the College’s 2020 State Ambassador.

Arjon-Rivera, who is a first-generation College student, is one of 16 students throughout the Wisconsin Technical College System chosen each year for the District Student Ambassador program. The students develop greater public awareness and appreciation for the role and value of technical education.

“I’m so grateful for all of the new doors NWTC has opened for me,” Arjon-Rivera said.

Over the next year, Arjon-Rivera will have opportunities to speak to future students, community leaders, community groups, and others, and will spotlight the important role of technical college play in the economy and society.

“I chose to enroll at NWTC for a number of reasons,” Arjon-Rivera said. “One being that it was very affordable compared to a university. I had looked into the cost of my program and knew that NWTC was the correct fit for me.”

Arjon-Rivera is a Design and Graphic Technology student and multicultural intern for International Programs in the College’s Student Involvement office.

“NWTC is close to my home and I didn’t have the option to attend college out-of-state or live on campus; staying home was the best option for me,” Arjon-Rivera said. “I was also very attracted to all of the hands-on learning that NWTC offers students.”

Student Involvement Manager Megan Popkey, who nominated Arjon- Rivera, described her as an outstanding leader and role model for the NWTC community.

“Denisse has been a joy to have on our team as an intern who has contributed so much,” Popkey said.  “She is a motivated and determined young woman who has an extremely bright future ahead of her. We are grateful to be a part of her educational and career journey.”

Arjon-Rivera will graduate in December of 2020  and will also have the honor of addressing fellow graduates as the commencement speaker.
