Testing Best Practices Walk in ready. Walk out confident.
The NWTC Test Center is here to set you up for success. Knowing what to expect before you arrive can ease your nerves and help everything go smoothly. Review the guidelines below so you can focus on what matters most — showing what you know.
All students must follow the guidelines outlined in the Student Handbook (Code of Conduct).
Before You Arrive: How to Prepare
Schedule your appointment. You are required to schedule your instructor exam appointment in Starfish before your test date.
Need testing accommodations? Contact Disability Services at (920) 498-6904 before scheduling or testing. We want to make sure you have everything you need to do your best.
Bring a valid photo ID. You must check in with a valid photo ID before testing. Student IDs and government-issued IDs are both accepted. ID requirements may vary depending on the test.
Know your course details. Have your instructor's name, class name, and how to access your exam in Canvas ready before you arrive.
Plan ahead if you're running late. If you arrive late for your appointment, you may be asked to sign a waiver of time or reschedule. All tests must be completed before the Testing Center closes. Staff will announce closing time 15 minutes in advance.

In the Testing Room: What to Expect
Ask questions before you begin. Once your test starts, the rules change. Get any questions answered before you begin.
Use only approved test aids. Your instructor determines which test aids are allowed and provides that list to the Testing Center. Any changes or exceptions must come directly from your instructor.
Store your belongings securely. Personal items and valuables must be stored in a locker during your exam. Lockers have limited space, so pack light. All electronics must be powered off before storing.
Restroom breaks. You may not leave the testing room once your exam begins unless you have permission from Testing Center staff. If you need a restroom break, notify the front desk before leaving.
Be considerate of others. The testing room is a shared space. Please stay as quiet as possible. Talking with other test takers is not permitted.
You are being monitored. The testing room is monitored by camera. Any concerns about academic honesty will be reviewed and reported.
When You're Done: Next Steps
Check out properly. When you finish, log out promptly and follow the checkout procedure. This keeps your personal information secure and frees up a seat for the next student.
Return any test materials. Staff will collect test aids and any written materials at checkout. Label everything clearly with your class name and instructor information.
Have a concern? If you have a complaint about how your test was administered, raise it immediately after testing with a proctor or Test Center manager. Staff are required to provide that contact information if you ask. All concerns will be reviewed and reported.
