10-526-221 SONOGRAPHY PHYSICS 1 ...introduces physics and instrumentation relevant to diagnostic medical sonography. Learners explore how principles of sound propagation in tissues create a sonographic image. (Prerequisites: Accepted into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography OR Echocardiography Program; 10-806-164, General Physics 2)

  2. Describe sounds waves and their acoustic variables in a medium
  3. Identify the interaction between sound waves and tissue
  4. Differentiate pulse wave operations and continuous wave sound
  5. Apply pre and post processing techniques to optimize sonographic images
  6. Describe the basic features of medical sonographic equipment
  7. Describe the fundamentals of image formation
  8. Prevent unsafe exposure to ultrasound
  9. Describe the construction and characteristics of various transducers and their applications
  10. Compare and contrast transducer technology
