10-605-219 FOUNDATIONS OF IMAGE QUALITY ...Discusses methods and measures to assess medical image quality of various imaging modalities. Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and its component factors will be a focus of discussion, which includes the appropriate test equipment and methodologies. (Prerequisite: 10-605-218, Image Detector Technology and Its Management)

What will I learn?

  1. Outline the factors that contribute to optimum medical image quality.
  2. Explain the concept of Modulation Transfer Function (MTF)
  3. Analyze diagnostic medical images for clinical acceptance.
  4. Distinguish between point spread function (PSF), line spread function (LSF) and contrast transfer function (CTF) as components of MTF.
  5. Calculate spatial and contrast resolution measures using industry standards.
  6. Analyze product specifications to determine highest diagnostic yield and dollar value.
  7. Determine the acceptance of x-ray imaging equipment according to established quality assurance standards.
  8. Outline the key characteristics of a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.
  9. Discuss the proper test equipment/procedures for evaluating the operation of a medical imaging system.
  10. Suggest methodologies to optimize sub-standard image quality
