10-091-379 DAIRY PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT ...this course is designed to bring all aspects of dairy management together (including, but not limited to: animal health, nutrition, production, housing, handling, management practices, technology, reproduction, economics, food safety, contracts and employability opportunities). Students will use critical thinking and problem solving techniques regarding multiple aspects of the dairy and the impacts seen on animal production/performance. (Prerequisite: 10-091-329, Livestock Housing and Equipment)

  1. Assess operational protocols and practices to maintain biosecurity and dairy animal health
  2. Evaluate dairy animal environment: including housing, milking, feeding, storage and waste handling facilities
  3. Examine dairy management program safety protocols, practices and data
  4. Evaluate the efficacy and efficiency dairy livestock feeding programs
  5. Analyze dairy animal reproductive performance data
  6. Develop a genetic improvement program for dairy animals
  7. Evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of dairy animal milking systems and procedures
  8. Evaluate the dairy industry economics affecting the operation of dairy facilities
  9. Analyze dairy operation financial and management records
  10. Evaluate employability skills within the dairy industry
  11. Assess the value of participating in professional dairy organizations
