The program will enrich cultural and diverse perspectives of Belize’s early childhood educational system, including family involvement. Students will be directly engaged with one of The Ministry of Education’s preschool programs and two Belize colleges. Cultural exploration, service learning, and professional development will be a focus of the program.
Develop intercultural communication skills and sensitivity.
Gain cultural awareness of the Belizean family structure, food, education system, and local economy, such as agriculture and small businesses.
Demonstrate cross-cultural sensitivity by interacting with students and teachers in Belize schools.
Demonstrate developmentally appropriate literacy based activities planned around children’s literature.
Develop activities that promote child development for “Children’s Fairs” (examples: yoga, gunny sack races, face painting, etc.).
$2,600 - $2,800 is the estimated program cost, and includes:
ECE and FTE Practicum (3 credits)
