In this exciting field, the principles of science and engineering are used to protect people and their environments from the devastating events of fire and smoke. To safeguard our homes, buildings and businesses, highly-skilled professionals are needed to design, install and service automatic sprinkler, fire alarm and special hazard fire suppression systems.

A graduate of this program will have the potential for employment in the following areas:

Fire Sprinkler System Designer: prepares designs and layout drawings of new fire sprinkler systems for commercial, residential, and industrial applications.

Fire Suppression System Designer: prepare, design and layout drawings of new fire suppression systems for commercial, residential and industrial applications.

Fire Alarm System Designer: prepares designs and layout drawings of new fire alarm detection systems for commercial, residential and industrial applications.

Fire Alarm System Installer: interprets fire alarm system designs, performs on-site system installation and verifies fire alarm system operation and maintenance.

Fire Alarm System Inspector: inspects fire alarm systems, performs on-site system testing, verifies fire alarm system operation and maintenance.

Fire Protection System Inspector: inspects fire alarm and fire suppression systems, performs on-site system testing, verifies fire alarm and fire suppression system operation and maintenance.

Fire Protection Engineering Technician: can prepare fire protection system designs, inspect fire protection systems, service fire protection systems and maintain fire protection systems. Fire protection systems include fire alarm, fire suppression and fire sprinkler systems.
