Course Description

76-854-820 MATH SEMINAR 3A ...this course is designed for learners who enter at NRS levels 4 through 6. This course is designed to prepare students for the GED® Mathematical Reasoning Test through exploring Quantitative and Algebraic Problem-Solving. Qualitative Problem-Solving topics include: number sense concepts and applying all operations on rational numbers, calculating perimeter, area, surface area, and volume, interpreting various data displays and utilizing counting techniques. Algebraic Problem-Solving topics include: writing, evaluating, simplifying, and solving expressions, polynomials, linear equations, inequalities, and quadratic equations; connecting, interpreting, graphing, and evaluating linear and non-linear functions.

What will I learn?

  1. Apply number sense concepts, including ordering rational numbers, absolute value, multiples, factors, and exponents.
  2. Add, subtract, multiply, divide, and use exponents and roots of rational, fraction and decimal number.
  3. Calculate and use ratios, percents, and scale factors.
  4. Calculate dimensions, perimeter, circumference, and area of two-dimensional figures.
  5. Calculate dimensions, surface area, and volume of three-dimensional figures.
  6. Interpret and create data displays.
  7. Calculate and use mean, median, mode and weighted average.
  8. Utilize counting techniques and determine probabilities.
  9. Write, evaluate, and compute with expressions and polynomials.
  10. Write, manipulate, solve, and graph linear equations.
  11. Write, manipulate, solve, and graph linear inequalities.
  12. Write, manipulate, and solve quadratic equations.
  13. Connect and interpret graphs and functions.
  14. Connect coordinates, lines, and equations.
  15. Compare, represent, and evaluate functions.
