10-526-259 ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY CLINICAL 2... this assessment is designed to observe the sonographer in the active echocardiography lab, assess competencies learned throughout the echocardiography program journey, and coach the sonographer on opportunities for success. Students are routinely evaluated on professional growth, personal interactions, and technical ability. (Prerequisites: 10-526-254, Echocardiography Clinical 1; Corequisites: 10-526-256, Advanced Cardiac Pathology & Case Review)

What will I learn?

  1. Adhere to universal and standard safety precautions with general independence.
  2. Perform patient care with supervision.
  3. Complete required patient documentation with supervision.
  4. Participate as a member of the healthcare team with supervision.
  5. Adhere to the sonographers code of ethics with general independence.
  6. Perform the routine complete transthoracic echocardiogram and related measurements with supervision.
  7. Perform ventricular systolic dysfunction assessment by two-dimensional and spectral Doppler analysis with supervision.
  8. Perform left ventricular diastolic dysfunction by two-dimensional and spectral Doppler analysis with supervision.
  9. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram with related measurements to evaluate aortic root pathology with supervision.
  10. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate aortic valve stenosis with assistance.
  11. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate mitral valve stenosis or mitral valve prosthesis/repair with assistance.
  12. Perform or review a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate right heart valve stenosis or valve prosthesis/repair with assistance.
  13. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate aortic valve insufficiency with assistance.
  14. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate mitral valve regurgitation with assistance.
  15. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate right heart valve regurgitation with assistance.
  16. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate aortic prosthesis/repair with assistance.
  17. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate ischemic heart disease with assistance.
  18. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate patient with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy with assistance.
  19. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate patient with an obstructive or non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with continuous guidance.
  20. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate a patient with pericardial disease with continuous guidance.
  21. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram to evaluate known or suspected pulmonary disease and/or hypertension with assistance.
  22. Perform a transthoracic echocardiogram in a patient with atrial fibrillation with assistance.
  23. Perform use of an ultrasound enhancement agent during a transthoracic echocardiogram with continuous guidance.
  24. Perform use of an agitated saline contrast study during a transthoracic echocardiogram with continuous guidance.
