MLK Celebration offers free music, food, speakers

24th annual celebration of Martin Luther King’s birthday returns to Green Bay
 
Northeast Wisconsin residents gathered at NWTC to help celebrate the cultural heritage and diverse strengths of Brown County communities.
 
Join the Brown County Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Birthday on January 19 2019 at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green BayThe 24th Annual Community Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday was held January 19 with free admission, musical performances, creative work by local students, food and inspirational comments by community leaders.

The family-friendly event for all ages and cultures is a joint effort by  Green Bay Area Public Schools, UW-Green Bay, St. Norbert College, Green Bay Police Department, Bellin Health, NEWAAA, Humana and other community groups.

At this year's celebration, visitors could:
  • Enjoy live dance and musical performances by local artists
  • Hear the inspiring words of Dr. King
  • Share in a free lunch influenced by local cultures and cuisines 
  • See the work of area students who competed in the annual MLK poster, essay and poetry contest 

This year’s emcees were Robyn Davis, President and CEO of Brown County United Way, and Rashad Cobb, Community Engagement Program Officer at Greater Green Bay Community Foundation.

Performers included Lasya School of Dance, Grupo Folklorico de Nicolet, the Philippine Dance Troupe of the Fox Cities, and local students who read excerpts from Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech.
