NWTC to launch Baking and Pastry program

In response to increased demand for training and assistance in bakeries and kitchens industry not only in northeast Wisconsin but across the country, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) is set to launch the Baking and Pastry certificate program in the fall 2019 semester. 

“NWTC is really excited about starting the Baking and Pastry certificate program. The program is designed for those who have a passion for baking or those who dream of owning their own bakery.

The program will be in located in the state-of-the-art culinary lab in the Student Center on the Green Bay Campus.

“At this time of year, the demand for employees in hospitality remains incredible high. Many of the positions want individuals that are verse in both baking and cooking. This new baking certificate can give individuals already in the workforce an advancement within their careers, or someone interested in baking a whole new set of industry related skills. ” Chef Lisa Hickman said.

Students who graduate from the 9-credit program will be prepared for employment in different areas of food production including: Pastry Baker, Cake Decorator, Pastry Cook, or Bakery Lead. All credits transfer to the Culinary Specialists Technical Diploma.

Grads will also be prepared for employment in the food service industry through training and practical experience in sanitation, recipe preparation, breads, muffins, scones, rolls, cakes, pies, tarts, chocolate products and a large variety of restaurant quality desserts.
