What I do at NWTC and how long I’ve been here:
I work in Academic Coaching as the Academic Coaching Operational Specialist. My primary duty is to ensure students have opportunities to receive academic coaching for their classes. We accomplish this through recruiting, coordinating and managing coaching sessions through our academic coaching lab and through our virtual coaching services via Blackboard Collaborate. I have been at NWTC for a little over two years. I recently started this position in September 2016. Prior to that, I was a Career Advisor for the past two years.
How my work relates to student success:
I am passionate about student success and higher education. I come to work every day believing that I can make a difference in a student’s life, no matter how big or small my contribution is. I believe my work relates to student success through our continuous efforts to encourage students to come see us and to utilize our group coaching services. Our statistics show that students are at a 76.42 percent success rate in their class if they attend coaching. This along with making myself transparent and approachable has allowed me to relate and help students from all walks of life.
Why I love coming to work at NWTC:
I am proud I get to be a part of a college who dedicates endless time and efforts in helping students succeed. So many of us are voices and advocates for our students and this inspires me. With everyone’s passion for student success, it definitely helps fuel my energy every day when I come into work.
What makes working at NWTC unique:
NWTC is unique because of our culture here. Every time I meet new staff or faculty, it is always a pleasure in getting to know them because we all hold similar values and goals for our students. We are also a college that provides many resources for our students from when they begin their education here to when they are ready to find employment opportunities. I am very proud and grateful to be a member of this college!
