 Lost Your Job?

Find your future here!

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and its many partners have resources to help individuals who find themselves out of work. NWTC works closely with several community agencies like the Workforce Development Board and Wisconsin Job Center to connect displaced workers with resources for advancing their education or finding employment.

We are here to help you get back to work quickly whether that means critiquing your resume or helping you find appropriate technical training.  If you lost your job through downsizing or a layoff and qualify to receive unemployment compensation, the Department of Workforce Development considers you a dislocated worker. There are funds available to help eligible dislocated workers pay for schooling.  The Workforce Investment Act (WIA)  funds tuition for high-wage, high-demand occupations.  The Trade Adjustment Act provides funding for dislocated workers whose companies were forced to downsize due to foreign competition. There is a certification process the company must go through in order for workers to be eligible. This program can pay for tuition and books as well as extend the length of unemployment benefits. To learn more about these programs contact a case manager at your local Job Center.

Even if you are not receiving unemployment benefits, the Career Services Team at NWTC can help you examine your career options.  Trained professionals can help you with your resume writing and interviewing skills as well as discuss going back to school.

Four Steps to Career Success:

  1. Visit your local Job Center and talk with a WIA case manager to learn about the services available to you
  2. Visit NWTC’s Career Services to explore educational opportunities
  3. Apply to a Program and sign up for classes (approved by your case manager)
  4. Apply for Financial Aid

Once you are here we have a full array of support services from a dislocated worker support group to tutoring to special needs accommodations - Visit the Returning Adult Services Office for more information.
