 Tutoring - Frequently Asked Questions

Does a student have to be failing a class to get tutoring?

No. Tutoring services are provided using funding from the Carl Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act grant. According to Perkins guidelines, students who are not attaining academic competencies for a specific course may be eligible for tutoring. Any student struggling with class competencies for a credit course is eligible for tutoring assistance. We ask students to wait until there is some tangible work completed in classes to fully determine if the student is meeting class competencies. However, some students are eligible for tutoring starting the first day of class with the approval of an academic counselor.

How does a student request a tutor?

Students request a tutor by submitting a Tutoring Services Request Form located on their my.NWTC student portal.  Once a learner has requested a tutor, he/she will be contacted within 2 business days.  Students, please contact us at nwtc.tutoring@nwtc.edu if you have not been contacted and/or have questions.

Can a student's friends/family tutor the student at home?

Tutoring must take place on campus. Friends or Family may tutor a student if they meet the qualifications to become a tutor.

How do I become a Tutor?

Contact us at nwtc.tutoring@nwtc.edu. If you meet the qualifications, you can tutor. NWTC pays tutors either $8/hour or $9/hour depending on the session.
