By law, students in specific Health Sciences, Public Safety, Trades & Engineering Technologies, and Family Services programs are required to complete a Criminal/Caregiver Background Check, in order to fully complete program requirements and attend clinical and site placements.
In August 2012, NWTC transitioned from an on-site office and personnel that submit and review each student's background check, to a web-based program. The new process utilizes the www.CertifiedBackground.com website. The staff at www.CertifiedBackground.com do a nation-wide search based on in-depth requirements by our clinicals and sites to determine if a student has any background issues that would prevent them from completing their program requirements.
NOTE: Students with a current, unexpired Background Check card through NWTC do NOT need to complete the online process until the card expires. The new process is for new students, and students whose card will expire during the time they are a program student at NWTC.
Unfortunately we cannot accept background checks completed by other entities. IF you completed a background check via www.certifiedbackground.com at another school, email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will determine if it is acceptable.
This page outlines the requirements to complete a Criminal/Caregiver Background Check. The programs listed at the bottom of this page require successful completion of a background check for admissions consideration.
How Do I Get Started?
Each program with criminal/caregiver background check requirements has an informational sheet. Open the informational sheet below and follow the directions, using the program-specific Package Code listed to place an order and begin the process on the www.CertifiedBackground.com website. See the chart below for program names and links to the informational sheets.
