Marinette campus hosts career expo

NWTC Marinette and the Upper Peninsula Chapter of the American Welding Society teamed up to sponsor a career opportunities expo for area high school students on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Marinette, Oconto, Peshtigo, St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, Oconto Falls, and Coleman were among the schools taking part in the career expo – a total of 165 students were in attendance.

Students had the option of participating in two programs (an hour and 45 minutes each). Program choices included Automotive Technology, Fire Protection Engineering Technology, Machine Tool and Welding. Hands-on activities and demonstrations included the latest Welding and cutting equipment, and plastic and metallurgy processes; CNC programming and operation of CNC lathes and mills in Machine Tool; design aspects and demonstrations of fire extinguishing systems in Fire Protection Engineering Technology; and shadowing of live shop tasks as well as program comparisons in Automotive. Representatives from local industry were on hand to discuss career opportunities and employment expectations. Students were also given financial aid and scholarship information.
