U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen will speak at NWTC-Marinette Commencement

U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen will address graduates at NWTC-Marinette Commencement Ceremony on May 16.

Commencement will be held at 6:00 p.m. at UW – Marinette’s Theatre on the Bay in Marinette. Campus staff expect about 100 graduates and about 400 family and friends to attend the ceremony, which will be officiated by Dr. Rafn. It will be followed by a reception at Little River Country Club, located at N2235 Shore Drive.

Dr. Steve Kagen was born and raised in Appleton Wisconsin where he and his wife Gayle raised four children. His first job was at the Foremost Dairy, as a Teamster, where he bagged sugar and whey. He later earned an honors degree in Molecular Biology and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2006, Dr. Kagen founded the Kagen Allergy Clinics in Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh and Fond du Lac and served as an assistant clinical professor of Allergy-Immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology. He was named by Wisconsin doctors as one of the “Best Doctors in America.” He is also credited with having discovered many new causes of allergy and asthma, and served for seven years as the exclusive Allergy Consultant to CNN, CNN Airport News, CNN Headline News, and CNN Interactive. Dr. Kagen was honored in 2005 by the federal Environmental Protection Administration for his creation of a 5th grade health education program that protects children from environmental risks.

Dr. Kagen ran for U.S. Congress to pursue the goal of providing access to affordable health care for everyone. He was elected forty years to the day after his father, Dr. Marvin Kagen, ran for the same seat.

Dr. Kagen is the only Wisconsin member of Congress serving on the House Agriculture Committee, with seats on the Subcommittees on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry; Conservation, Credit and Research; and Department Oversight, Nutrition and Forestry. Dr. Kagen also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, with seats on the Aviation Subcommittee, and the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee.
