2008 AWARD NOMINATIONS
Each year the College presents annual awards to outstanding individual employees and teams. The College is again looking for nominations from NWTC staff and students for the awards listed below. The award may be given to any individual or group, including NWTC employees, students, advisory committee members and community members.
Nominations should be a brief statement in support of the nominees describing how their efforts align with the value statements of the College and explain how they go above and beyond the required duties of their job responsibilities at the College.
All nominations should be forwarded to Dr. Jeff Rafn
NO LATER THAN Thursday, March 20, 2008.
A cross-functional selection committee will review all nominations. The awards will be presented at the end of the year awards presentation the morning of Thursday, May 15, 2008.
AWARDS AND NOMINATION CRITERIA
Excellence in Teaching Award
Classroom excellence; preparation, ability to stimulate interest, rapport, and accomplishment.
Demonstrated effort to improve the overall quality of instruction within the College as a whole, as well as within the individual’s classes.
Commitment to the teaching profession as demonstrated by non-classroom efforts and involvement.
Shirley Lipsey Citation
Demonstration of overall positive attitude, energy, and vitality towards the institution, staff, and mission.
A “Can Do,” “Be There” person who is supportive and has a positive reinforcement approach towards life and problem solving.
Joe Carroll Award for Service to Students
Demonstration of continued and tireless dedication to the students of the College and their individual needs.
Demonstrated willingness to become involved and to commit one’s self to the needs of others and to the needs of the school community.
A calm, steady, supportive approach towards staff, students, and problems; a personal commitment to providing support and guidance; and a willingness to listen and help.
Affirmative Action Award
Someone who has worked hard to help all members of the NWTC community have a fair chance at success.
Committed to the value of diversity within our community.
Helps to create an environment for all people that is nurturing and respectful.
Is devoted to intellectual and personal discovery of others.
President’s Service Learning Award
The person/team best exemplifies service learning as defined below:
Service Learning at NWTC
Is integrated into and enhances the curriculum or learning by providing opportunity for students to apply skills learned in their course, program, certificate, or college activity
Is a method of teaching and learning
Requires student reflection
Connects learning and assessment to the real world
Fosters civic responsibility
Addresses a community issue and/or enhances community development
Is mutually beneficial to the learner and the community.
In addition to the above, the following criteria shall be used in determining the recipient of this award:
Demonstrates superior integration into learning opportunities for students
Demonstrates commitment to developing and nurturing mutually beneficial partnerships with various community organizations.
Cultivates an environment of civic engagement and the spirit of volunteerism in students.
Demonstrates leadership qualities including the ability to inspire and encourage others and to bring together resources.
Achieves tangible outcomes. For instance, problems solved, numbers of people reached, measurable change, dollars saved, effective leveraging of volunteers and resources.
Team Award
This award recognizes a chartered NWTC team dedicated to productivity and learning as demonstrated in the areas of effectiveness, attitude and collaboration. The award is based on a team that:
Provides opportunities for all members to develop and practice team leadership.
Recognizes professional development as a key to team growth.
Seeks continuous improvement for the team through the use of innovation and advanced ideas.
Demonstrates team and individual accountability.
Uses team concepts such as action plans, goal setting, ground rules, and effective use of team time.
Demonstrates open inter- and intra-team communication
Provides an environment that allows for balanced participation and ideas of all team members.
