Service and Volunteer Opportunities 

 

Internships: Service-learning internships or capstone projects allow NWTC students to work closely with a community partner over the course of a semester (or two).  Although these positions are unpaid, they provide excellent real world experience to include on a resume, as well as an opportunity to network within the student's field of interest prior to entering the workforce.

 

Administrative Assistant:

 

the ARTgarage (August 25):

Work with onsite staff to help with daily operations of the organization and assist with planning of Art Meets Heart fundraiser - create system to track and record donations, participation agreements and artists' statements.  Seeking interns for both fall and spring semesters (may serve for both!).

Marketing:

  

Tri-City Area (Marinette) United Way (August 30):

Develop marketing plan and materials to reach potential donors and volunteers – both individuals and businesses.  Assist with planning of events.

Literacy Green Bay (August 30):

Create marketing plans and materials targeted to specific volunteer groups:  males, under 40, retired teachers and/or tutors to work with special needs clients.

GRACE - Green Bay Area Catholic Education (August 30):

Design brochures which will be distributed to 24,600 people to increase awareness of and raise funds for the school system.  Work with part-time webmaster to maintain and develop site.

March of Dimes (August 25):

Ongoing search for students to help with marketing and planning of events.  The organization hosts four to five interns each semester.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin (June 30):
Assist with recruitment, creation of marketing materials, and engaging in grassroots communication.  The intern will work in an environment that depends on effective and timely communication, diligent organization, problem-solving skills, and professionalism.  A business or marketing student is preferred.  There are two openings for this position.

Web Development:

 

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (August 25):

Assist with the creation of a new user-friendly website that allows for: anonymous feedback from support group attendees, online donations via PayPal or other third party application, ability to sync demographic information submitted online with Access database.

Other Opportunities: Service-learning can take place over the course of an entire year or one afternoon.  More importantly, it can be incorporated into any curriculum.  These organizations currently have needs NWTC students could fill:

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters (June 30):

Share your love of sports and outdoor activities with children in the Sports Buddies program.  Low or no-cost activities including: group interaction, participation in and watching sporting events (free tickets!).  Six month minimum commitment to meeting twice a month for two hours.  For more information:  http://bbbsnew.org/sports-buddies.php
