 LIR Membership

Who

Door County Learning in Retirement (DCLIR) is a membership organization, non-profit, established and sponsored in partnership with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) Sturgeon Bay Campus. We have over 500 members, retired and semi-retired people who desire to explore new and exciting ideas, enjoy being with others to share experiences, knowledge and wisdom, and like making new friends.

 What

DCLIR is one of twelve Lifelong Learning programs in the state of Wisconsin. The Lifelong Learning programs throughout the country are established, planned, and maintained by volunteers. We choose topics of interest to our members and expect that the members assist in the planning and execution of the programs. There are three standing committees: Finance, Curriculum, and Social, which are overseen by the Board of Directors/Steering Committee. The Board of Directors is comprised of the elected president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and three elected members at large. The Steering Committee consists of the chairs of the standing committees, the Volunteer Coordinator, the DCLIR administrative assistants and the campus manager of NWTC – Sturgeon Bay Campus, all of whom are members by virtue of their position.

 Where

DCLIR classes are located at NWTC - Sturgeon Bay Campus at 229 North 14 th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay. Phone (920) 746-4947. We are fortunate to have been provided office space and phone by NWTC. The LIR office, room 121A, is open Monday-Thursday from 9am-12 noon. Our e-mail address is: dclir@nwtc.edu.

 When

DCLIR offers a year of programming for the $50 annual membership fee. The year begins September 1 and ends August 31. This includes the Fall and Spring semesters of programming, summer activities plus other social functions planned throughout the year. There is no limit to the number of courses/activities in which you may participate. There is a second registration in January for the spring session. New members can join at that time for $35.  Summer Safari 2015 activities, click here or on the link at the right.  Summer Safari 2015 flyer.pdf.

 Why

DCLIR is dedicated to facilitating quality lifelong learning in an open, ongoing forum for older adults in Northeastern Wisconsin. The demographics of our geographical area indicate that we have a population that would value and support such a program. This seems to be the case, as we were newly established in 2005 and are proud to have 135 charter members.
