Class helps youth age 12- and over to prepare for state and federal certification tests

Monday, Feb.22, 2010 (GREEN BAY) - Area youth who work on farms can learn how to safely operate tractors and farm machinery through upcoming classes from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

NWTC is offering a Farm Machinery/Tractor Safety course for ages 12 and up. The class will meet on Saturdays starting March 20. Students can participate in either Luxemburg or Oconto Falls. Additional sections of the class will be held in three locations this summer.

The Farm Machinery/Tractor Safety course will provide students with the necessary training and preparation to take an evaluation test for state and federal certificates of completion. The state certificate allows children who are at least 12 years old to operate equipment and tractors on public roads for their parents or guardians. The federal certificate allows children of at least 14 years of age to operate farm machinery and tractors on public roads for non-family farms.
