Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Respiratory Therapist student Evan Slavek has been named the Wisconsin Society for Respiratory Care (WSRC) Student of the Year. Slavek received the award during the Northern Regional Respiratory Care Conference April 14 in Rochester, MN.
The WSRC Student of the Year award goes to a currently enrolled Respiratory program student who has shown exceptional leadership and achievement. For his achievement, he received a $100 check and plaque.
“Evan exemplifies service in every aspect of the word,” said Katherine Schlitz, NWTC Respiratory Therapist Program Director. “We are proud to call him a colleague and he’ll make a welcome addition to the respiratory care profession.”
Slavek, who graduates from the program this May, served as an Army medic for six years, where he earned three Army Achievement medals and attained the rank of Sergeant E-5. He’s taken a leadership position serving as the Treasurer of the Respiratory Therapy club, and is has excelled academically, earning him membership in the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. A past graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, he is currently employed as a direct care professional.
