NWTC Student Life to present ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

 1/27/2012

 Ann Malvitz

Wednesday, February 1 – 11:30 a.m., Green Bay campus

(Green Bay) Iraq war veteran, writer, and lecturer Rob Smith will speak about his experiences as a gay enlisted soldier in the U.S. Army in an upcoming presentation at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will be held Wednesday, February 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center Lecture Hall (Room SC132) on the Green Bay campus.

Smith’s numerous articles and opinion pieces about the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy and other political issues have appeared in USA Today, The Huffington Post, CNN.com, and Salon.com. His experiences as an enlisted soldier from a working-class, African-American background bring a unique and relatable perspective to the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell debate.

Part of the NWTC Student Life Food for Thought Series, the event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. A complimentary lunch will be available for NWTC students; NWTC staff and the general public are welcome to bring their own lunches or purchase food in the Commons.

For more information about this event, contact Megan Popkey, NWTC Student Involvement manager, (920) 498-7186.
