Delivering high tech training to rural high schools
Students in the region’s rural high schools can get rolling on their college education and future careers with the new Computer Integrated Manufacturing Mobile Lab.
The 44 foot mobile lab is packed with technology:
Students can earn dual high school and college credit by taking the two-credit CNC Fundamentals 1 or the CNC Fundamentals 2 course in the lab.

More about the mobile lab
-
The lab is totally self-contained, is run with two on-board diesel generators, and pulled by a one-ton commercial grade pick-up truck.
-
The lab’s two slide-outs provide the space necessary for everything that a student would find in a stationary lab.
-
The lab is run by a CNC lab aide, who also drives the lab to the rural high schools. The lab aide complements the existing high school technical instruction by assisting high school instructors with the technology.
Where is the mobile lab going?
Currently, the lab is visiting two Door county high schools each week to supplement the schools’ existing machine tool programming. In addition, throughout its first year of operation, the trailer will travel to career days, economic summits, and area high schools – all with the intent of booking schools for next year and gaining employer sponsors.
The following academic year (2012-2013), the mobile lab will reach out to rural high schools throughout the region, visiting 10 high schools each semester and serving up to 240 students each year.
Sponsorship opportunities
Sponsorship opportunities are available for employers who would like to help bring the Computer Integrated Manufacturing Mobile Lab to the high schools in their communities.
