 Field Experience 2

Field Experience 2 is the second of two field experience courses designed to introduce the student to the field of AODA Human Services by providing the student with actual work experience in a AODA human services agency. Students will complete a minimum of 144 hours of service to the agency of their choice, with direct supervision provided by the agency supervisor. The students will work with the agency to define individual learning objectives to be obtained during the course of the field experience. Students will also engage in online coursework to enhance and support their field experience.  Students will complete a final capstone project (portfolio) demonstrating their learning in the AODA Human Services program. The goal is to facilitate the student's transition into the work world.

 

Course Competencies

  1. Attain first-hand experience by serving a minimum of 144 hours in a human service agency.
  2. Practice effective communication skills.
  3. Demonstrate problem-solving interventions with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
  4. Demonstrate effective time management skills.
  5. Demonstrate a commitment to practice which is sensitive to differences among people.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of ethical and legal issues in human services.
  7. Utilize supervision and consultation opportunities regularly.
  8. Formulate an action plan to recognize and address self-care in the Human Services field.
  9. Guide clients to explore, develop, and utilize strategies of managing resistance and overcoming barriers to change
  10. Demonstrate the ability to match specific supports and interventions to the unique needs of the clients.
  11. Identify effective advocacy or supportive strategies to overcome constraints such as legal or financial challenges facing clients.
  12. Prepare written documentation that meets professional standards of the human service field.
  13. Explain your plan for entry into the Human Services profession.

 

Learning Activities

The student will work with their agency supervisor to plan and implement learning activities while at the field site.  Students also have a classroom component for the Field 2 class.  Students can expect to complete:
