Why consider a marine manufacturing career?
Great job outlook. Currently, shortages of skilled and experienced workers exist in nearly all areas of the industry, including production, ship design, engineering and acquisition. In addition, the majority of the existing workforce is approaching retirement age.*
High earning potential. The mean hourly wages for manufacturing-related positions range from $16 for certified welder inspectors - to $25 for Mechanical Engineering Technicians - to $29 for pipefitters and first line managers!**
Hands-on, rewarding work. Don’t want to be stuck behind a desk? Don’t worry. In a marine manufacturing career you’ll work with high-tech tools and equipment to produce components and systems for high speed boats, luxury yachts, and large ships. Plus, you’ll get satisfaction from seeing the results of your work and knowing that YOU made the end product.
The industry is vital to the Northeast Wisconsin economy. Of the eight ship builders on the Great Lakes, seven are within the NWTC district: ACE Marine, Bay Shipbuilding Company, Burger Boat Company, Cruisers Yachts, Marinette Marine Corporation, Marquis/Carver Yachts, and Palmer Johnson Yachts. Exciting future! Hundreds of new positions in the shipbuilding industry are just around the corner due to retirements. Even more should future US Navy and US Coast Guard shipbuilding contracts be awarded to Northeast Wisconsin’s marine manufacturers.
Prepare for your future in the shipbuilding industry.
